What makes a good logo? Matt has written several articles on this subject. Briefly, a good logo should go beyond describing your business and it should become symbolic of your business and business goals. Another test of a good logo is whether it will inspire and inform the other aspects of your branding, such as the brochure and web design. Generally, the logo should be instantly recognizeable at any size—from web thumbnail to billboard. Of course it should be memorable. The best logos tend to be more simple. Picture in your mind Sprint, Red Cross, Google, Coca-cola, FedEx, Apple, CNN—they are all simple and memorable with very few moving parts.

What is a marketing slick? A marketing slick, also called a 'sales slick,' is typically a one-page fact sheet about a particular item you are marketing / selling, either a service or an actual product. It's called a "slick" because it's printed on glossy paper. Let's say you want people to know about your knew widget machine. You put a nice product shot on the front of the slick along with some sales text and maybe some technical inormation. You can put a graph on the back showing how it will increase profits and production for the user. Companies also make slicks for services they offer. Sometimes the sales rep will hand them out individually to clients or at tradeshows or they are stacked neatly in a glossy folder. They are popular because it costs pennies to print and communicates quickly and efficiently. BACK TO TOP
